It could soon be possible to pay your utility bills while at a mall or supermarket.
BANGALORE: Ever wanted to pay your utility bills while at a mall or supermarket? This could soon be possible, with the directorate of Electronic Delivery of Citizen Services (EDCS) likely to set up BangaloreOne kiosks at shopping centres soon. Managements of supermarkets and malls have offered to make space for the kiosks, where shoppers can pay utility bills, on their premises.
As a pilot project, a supermarket on Bannerghatta Road is expected to have the first B1 kiosk. "The supermarket management is holding talks with B1 officials. The management has provided space on the third floor. However, we are seeking space on the ground floor," EDCS officials told The Times of India. The supermarket kiosks will be open from 8 am to 8 pm and have two-three counters with six executives. Once the space is handed over, it will take a few days to set up the interiors.
A month ago, EDCS launched miniature BangaloreOne centres B1 kiosks at 20 locations across the city. The kiosks have registered over 50,000 transactions within 30 days. The 19 main centres handle over 5 lakh transactions a month. This is expected to increase by a lakh after new centres come up at Yelahanka, Kengeri and Electronic City. "The Wipro campus in Electronic City is expected to get a BangaloreOne centre. The Infosys campus already has one," the officials said. amit.upadhye@timesgroup.com
